It’s just me and You, God!

When we begin a love relationship with God, becoming a new person is a process. Salvation and forgiveness from God are instant, but it takes time to learn God’s perspective and unlearn behaviors that have kept you bound to old ways of thinking and being. We are commanded to be transformed by the renewing of our mind which means we learn over time to think and thereby react differently to events in our life.

Even after years of trusting God and His Word, I could still easily struggle with handling disappointment. Though I said I trusted God, I still relied on people. I remember countless times being upset or disappointed and almost shouting through tears, “It's just me and You, God!” That would be how I started my prayer conversation. I was hurt and it was me and God against the world because only He could be trusted. I ran to God like my fall back, my second choice.

One day, God in His perfect and faithful love for me responded to my frustrated outburst with a resounding, “Yes, it is!”

Instantly, the saying had new meaning that had nothing to do with other people. I grieved that it was always said in such a negative way and asked God to forgive me. Having God meant I lacked nothing and no one. I was complete in and through Him!

When you really embrace the truth that God is all you ever have and all you ever really need, you find there is little else that can truly overwhelm you. Sure circumstances will happen. People will fall short on some things but so will you. When God gives you His perspective, you are transformed as your mind is renewed.

What part of your life could use God’s perspective? What part of your mind needs to be renewed?

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Romans 12:2 ESV Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Philippians 1:6 ESV And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:10 NKJV And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
